My list of movies recommended for the 2011 National Film Registry :)

Today I sent an e-mail suggesting the movies that should become part of the National Film Registry this year (yesterday I wrote about it and how to participate). Well, as I said last night, I love Two for the Road (1967; Stanley Donen), so that was my #1 suggestion. For the rest, I browsed through the list of movies not yet selected for NFR, and my final list was this (it seems that you can suggest 50 per year):

1. Two for the road (1967)
2. Quiet Man, The (1952)
3. I Remember Mama (1948)
4. Penny Serenade (1941)
5. Avanti! (1972)
6. Camille (1936)
7. Star is Born, A (1937)
8. Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
9. Pollyanna (1960)
10. Auntie Mame (1958)
11. Nun’s Story, The (1959)

19. Stage Door (1937)
20. Charade (1963)
21. Waterloo Bridge (1940)
22. No Man of Her Own (1932)
23. Dishonored (1931)

37. Portrait of Jennie (1948)
38. True Grit (1969)
39. Bachelor Mother (1939)
40. Scarlet Street (1945)
41. Beau Geste (1939)
42. Stella Dallas (1937)
43. History is Made at Night (1937)
44. City Streets (1931)
45. Alice Adams (1935)
46. Anna Karenina (1935)
47. Dinner at Eight (1933)
48. What Price Hollywood? (1932)
49. Tarzan, the Ape Man (1932)
50. Blonde Venus (1932)

What do you think? There are so many great movies that haven't been selected! I left out films that are known and generally appreciated, like Breakfast at Tiffany's or Dumbo because I guess there will be always people who want to restore and distribute them. Oh, because I have no idea about silent films, I couldn't include them. I received a reply saying that the announcement of the latest titles to be added to the Registry will be next December.

  2. This is wonderful! I've just now sent in my 50 suggestions, so thanks for telling us about it!

I love your recommendations -- we picked a lot of the same films :D Film preservation is so important -- it makes me so sad to think that in a few decades many of my favourite films might be lost just because people don't care enough to restore and preserve them.

  3. Father_Caprio: ¡Gracias! Y sí, es verdad, se me quedaron muchas fuera, pero ojalá que otras personas las propongan. Gracias por visitarme :)

Sophie: You're welcome! I agree with you, we need to support every instance to preserve and restore films, or they'll be irremediably gone :( Thanks for stopping by!
