I remember,
5. His blue eyes.
4. His movies.
3. His radiant personality.
2. The passion he had for the art he performed.
1. The great love he professed for his wife, Joanne.
0. His smile.
How do you remember him?
The three H's....Hud, Harper and Hombré.
ReplyDelete....Not forgetting the millions he raised for charity!
ReplyDeleteJust Amazing! ;D
ReplyDeleteTodo eso que dices más su sentido del humor y su humanidad. :-)
ReplyDeleteClara, I remember Paul Newman for his great acting, wicked sense of humor (he was never afraid to look goofy; SLAP SHOT springs to mind :-)), his long-running happy marriage to Joanne Woodward, and his humanitarian efforts. His salad dressing wasn't bad, either! :-) I still say Newman's tongue-in-cheek Hitchcockian thriller THE PRIZE was better than Newman's role in an actual Hitchcock movie, TORN CURTAIN. But that's not Newman's fault; he didn't write it. Anyway, Happy Birthday in Heaven, Blue Eyes!
ReplyDeleteAside from his great acting and great looks, he was a good man who put his money where his mouth is and made a difference in the world.
ReplyDeleteI second his blue eyes! I mean—WOW!
ReplyDeleteI also think of him whenever I crack open a box of Newman's Own Cereal or Salad Dressing :-)

This is the only celebrity who I have continued to miss after his passing. It's not like I knew the guy! But I feel like he had a lot more great stuff left to do, so it's sad to think than an illness took him away. Nice that he left us with so many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteInteresting list you made here! He was my favorite actor !!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... I didn't realize it had been 3 years ago yesterday :( May he rest in peace. I remember the day he died. I was at the dog training school with my mom and my dog when I heard about his death from a text from a friend. I was in shock and I remember feeling so sad because he is my second favorite actor, after Cary Grant. He was always so gorgeous, with those magnificent blue eyes, no matter how old he was. I remember when I was at the school that day, this older couple next to us heard me tell my mom and they said that they got married the same year as Paul and Joanne... some marriages really last. It's really lovely <3
ReplyDeleteClara, I got to meet him and he gave me a hug when I was 14. One of the thrilling moments of my young life. Such a nice guy, and a wonderful husband. Good epitaph for any man.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Harper, I like the other two. My favorite is "Cool Hand Luke". Then, "The Long Hot Summer". I think. And yes, I should add to my mental list his charity efforts! Thanks for visiting Paul, I really appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed :) Thanks a million for visiting Karla!
ReplyDeleteCompletamente de acuerdo, Abril! Sí, él tenía algo muy natural en su manera de proyectarse/interactuar con en el mundo. Gracias por comentar, un abrazo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dorian, great comment, I agree with everything you said...only, I do like "Torn Curtain" :) I have to check "The prize". And I wish I could get a jar of his salad dressing someday :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts about him!
ReplyDeleteYes, Marsha, I agree with you! He was just a terrific person. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Paul :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, well, I wish I could open one of these boxes too! Thanks for visiting, Briana!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know what you mean. And yes, it's refreshing to realize that people share the same sentiment about him. That's cool. Thanks for visiting, KC!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alexander!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky, Rebecca! I can't imagine actually meeting him... what a dream come true
ReplyDeleteLovely comment Desiree, thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, his marriage with Joanne was really inspiring, I mean they look so happy in every picture they appear together :) Thanks for your reply, girl!
ReplyDeleteYOU MET PAUL NEWMAN? OMG, Becky, we need more details! You could write a post about it (please) :) Anyway, you're so lucky, thanks for sharing that awesome fact! And I agree with you, that's a great epitaph for any man. And the cool thing about it, it's that he seemed very proud of being "a nice guy and a wonderful husband".
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comments, Clara, as always! And don't worry, I won't hold your love of TORN CURTAIN against you! :-) Seriously, my friend, although TC isn't one of my all-time favorite Hitchcock movies, it did have a number of memorable scenes, like the farmhouse murder, the ballet scene, and Paul Newman and Julie Andres canoodling! :-) If you get a chance to see THE PRIZE (it's available from Warner Archive), I think you'd really enjoy it.
