Enjoying in the projector: Dersu Uzala (1975)

You should see this film.

Directed by genius Akira Kurosawa, it tells the true story of a Russian militar and a hunter.

It's about friendship, the kind of friendship that's based on mutual admiration and genuine affection.

It's about nature, how different people relate to it.

It's about learning to respect The Other, always.

It's about learning from The Other.

It's about aging and losing our natural faculties.

It's about joy, sadness, fear, success, failure, talent, prejudice, injustice, bravery, uneasiness, feeling at home, feeling out of place...

It's about life.

You should see it.

  1. Clara, I've been meaning to congratulate you on getting a real live professional movie projector! Lucky you, getting to see great movies like DERSU UZALA on a big screen the way God intended! (I remember when it won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language FIlm!)
