This is my post # 200, so I decided to choose a joyful subject for my next poll.
I'd like to know which of the next actresses make you laugh the most (you can choose more than one option on the sidebar):
Carole Lombard
Lucille Ball
Ginger Rogers
Myrna Loy
Una Merkel
Jean Arthur
Rosalind Russell
Barbara Stanwyck
Marlene Dietrich
Rita Hayworth
Irene Dunne
Katharine Hepburn
Paulette Goddard
Marion Davies
Claudette Colbert
Eve Arden
I added people that are not mainly known for their comedy skills (like Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth); people who generally played secondary characters (Eve Arden, Una Merkel); and left out some actresses like Marilyn Monroe, the Bennett sisters, Miriam Hopkins, Judy Holliday, etc, because it was too crowded already :) But you can comment and give them kudos.
Irene!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like this blog post! :D haha
ReplyDeleteHow about that. Irene Dunn is even beating Lucille Ball. I just wrote about Una Merkel on my blog today, so I voted for her. See it at http://bitactors.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteNext time, please add Anita Garvin, Margaret Dumont and Mae Busch!
I love Una!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I revere at least ten of those you listed, I have to honest. Laugh at loud for me is still Gracie Allen. But she was more a straight comedian where those on your list are actresses who could do comedy. Best. Gerald.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your posts, so keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteHowever, since you invited correction of mistakes in English, I thought I'd offer one (which may only be a typographical error):
left out some actresses like Marilyn Monroe, the Bennett sisters, Miriam Hopkins, Judy Holliday, etc, because it was to crowded already
you actually want to say that "it was too crowded already"
this is a common mistake byeducated, wise folks who speak English as their first language, so please know that I'm not judging you by the error -- just wanted to point it out because it will occur so often unless checked.
btw -- the bigger error was made by folks who find Lucille Ball funny. She was rarely funny, but instead was an unusual character -- the Straight Man who did so as a clown. She set up everyone else to get the real laughs.
[with a few exceptions, of course -- even the unfunny can occasionally make one laugh]

Rena: LOL, yo sabía que ibas a votar por Irene!
ReplyDeleteDesiree: Thanks :)
Allen: Thanks for stopping by!
Gordon Pasha: I just have seen Gracie in "We're not dressing" with Carole Lombard and Bing Crosby; her scenes were hilarious, but somehow disconnected with the rest of the movie. Anyway, I'd love to hear/see more from her...any recommendation?
Mister Muleboy: THANKS for correcting my grammar! Sometimes I review posts from some time ago and find errors that I hadn't noticed! I always write "this" when I mean "these", for example :) And about Lucille: c'mon, you really mean that?? Her timing was terrific, she had a unbeatable capacity of making laugh trough slapstick and she had the most pliable face ever! I really love her show (her movies not so much) :) Thanks for stopping by ^^
Good article. Thank you.
